New Delhi: Expressing “deep sorrow and shock” at the loss of lives caused by the accident at Malwa station involving the Kalka Mail, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked the Railways to leave no stone unturned in providing aid and relief to the victims.
Dr Singh spoke to Minister of State for Railways Mukul Roy and to Railway Board Chairman Vinay Mittal and instructed them to make available all resources at their disposal for rescue and relief operations at the accident site.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Railways has announced ex gratia relief of Rs five lakh to the next of kin of those killed, Rs one lakh for the critically injured and Rs 25,000 to those with minor injuries.
At least five people were killed and over 100 others injured when 12 coaches of Howrah-Kalka Mail derailed near Malwa railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur area this morning.
