Srinagar, Apr 23: The police today said that it is yet to receive any instructions from the election commission on People’s Democratic Party (PDP) complaint against Union Minister and National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah for allegedly issuing threats to PDP leadership.
SSP Srinagar Amir Kumar told news agency that the police has already written to the election officials but no instructions have been issued sofar. “We have sought instructions that what action should be taken on a complaint filed by PDP. But sofar we have not received any instructions,†Kumar told news agency on phone.
“I fail to understand why police need instructions from election commission in our complaint because Dr Farooq has issued threats publicly. Even on a normal day police is supposed to take cognizance of such threats and I do not think police needs instructions to do its normal work in election days,†Naeem Akhter chief spokesman of PDP told on phone.
Akhter added that police has not taken any action on its complaint sofar. “We have not received any information and to my knowledge it has not registered any FIR in the matter,†he added. Pertinently, PDP has filed a formal police complaint against Dr Abdullah at Rajbagh police station allegedly for issuing threatening statements against the PDP and its leaders. In its complaint, PDP has alleged that Dr Abdullah has said ‘if he had the power, he would have carried out attacks on the opposition PDP to teach them a lesson’.
