Srinagar: Palhallan has always been a crucial village in the resistance movement of Kashmir. This village has rendered valuable sacrifices in the ongoing pro-freedom movement of Kashmir. In the ongoing unrest of past four months, this famous village of Pattan, has already witnessed eight civilian killings at the hands of Government forces in recent days, and is currently reeling under harsh curfew for more than month with around 30,000 souls caged in their homes. The residents of this volatile area accuse the forces of unleashing a reign of terror in the village and blasting transformers to snap electricity to the locals.
It is worth mentioning here that after passing through bumpy lanes and by-lanes, one comes to a cluster of villages known as Palhallan, 30 km from zero point of summer capital of the state on Srinagar-Gulmarg national highway in Pattan constituency of Baramulla district. The region has known nothing but killings and mayhem, and hundreds have been martyred since the breakout of violent revolution in 1989.Allmost every household has a tragedy to narrate in this grief-stricken village.
One can also gauge the level of hardships face by the palhallan belt from the recent statement of Senior PDP Leader and MLA Pattan Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari ,who is also the current MLA from Patttan constituency under which Palhallan belt comes, Ansari has warned the government of serious consequences if it did not stop atrocities and repression on the people especially in Palhallan and Pattan areas. In a statement he said entire Pattan area especially Palhalan and other villages have been converted into a big concentration camp in which people have been deprived of all fundamental rights.
Ansari said even as more than a dozen people most of them youth were gunned down by government forces in the area about sixty lay injured. He said about fourty of those having received injuries in the area at the hands of government forces are facing the prospect of life long disability. He said many of the youth have been targeted deliberately to damage their limbs and vital organs.
Ground realities clearly suggest that Villages like Palhallan have certainly been the synonym of undefeatable resistance and tragedy in the history of global conflicts and resistance movements.
