Islamabad, July 20 PTI general secretary Asad Umar on Wednesday said a committee was formed in Pakistan’s Punjab province to withdraw cases filed against the party leaders following the ‘Azadi March’ on May 25 and identify officials who ‘tortured’ protesters.
Umar took to Twitter and wrote: “We have not forgotten May 25 nor will we let anyone forget it.”
He added that committee would gather all the details of all the alleged fake cases against PTI members in the province and proceed legal action to withdraw the cases.
The committee will be headed by former education minister Shafqat Mahmood and also comprise PTI leaders Aamer Mehmood Kiani, Yasmin Rashid, Aon Abbas Buppi, and Raja Basharat.
PTI announced the formation of the committee after the days after party registered a win in the crucial Punjab by-elections, winning 15 of 20 seats in the province.
At a press conference on Tuesday, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the party would now form a government in the province on July 22 after the run-off chief minister elections, the Dawn reported.
According to the newspaper, PTI has chosen PML-Q leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as its candidate.
On May 25, Ex-Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan led a what they called ‘Azadi March’ which was joined by his supporters and party workers across the country. The government had invoked Section 144 to block them from entering Islamabad.
Many PTI leaders and workers were injured in Police action during the March.
