Srinagar November, 07: Pakistani troops today opened a new front, violating the 2003 ceasefire in Machil Sector at the frontier district of Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir, a Defence ministry Spokesperson said. Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing, targeting forward posts on the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector today, Col Rajesh Kalia told News agency. He said the Indian troops also retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for some time. No one was injured on this side of the LoC, he added. Residents of Machil said panic gripped the entire border town, when shells fired by Pakistani troops exploded on this side of the border. People took shelter in their houses and other safe places during the shelling. ”We were praying for peace between the two countries,” they said, adding that they were living a near normal life since India and Pakistan agreed for a ceasefire in 2003. There were minor ceasefire violations, but today’s shelling was heavy and fortunately, no one was injured, they said.
Pakistani troops have been violating ceasefire on International Border (IB) and LoC in Jammu region daily.
