Srinagar, April 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Alliance (JKPA) on Thursday issued a call to all its alliance partners and the local populace in Jammu, urging them to cast their votes in favor of the INDIA Alliance candidate in its twin Lok Sabha seats.

The directive comes as a response to what the JKPA perceives as the current dispensation’s disregard for the will and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking on behalf of the JKPA leaders from the Kashmir division, ANC Vice President Muzaffar Shah, emphasized the pivotal nature of the upcoming elections, stating that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are poised to deliver a resounding message to BJP through their votes.

“The recent announcement by Home Minister Amit Shah not to field any candidate from the Kashmir division underscores a significant shift in the political landscape,” remarked Muzaffar Shah. “This development exposes the fallacy of the BJP’s narrative regarding the abrogation of Article 370. If they truly acted in the best interests of the people, why are they hesitant to contest elections in Kashmir? It is evident that their decisions have been rejected by the populace & so would have been their candidates if they dared to do so.”

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Muzaffar Shah suggested for the closure of BJP offices in the region, asserting that they no longer serve any purpose in light of the prevailing sentiment against the party’s agenda & their unwillingness to go among the public.

He underscored the need for the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India to take the review petition regarding Article 370 seriously, considering the widespread opposition to the BJP’s actions in past and present.

“Our review petition in the Hon’ble Supreme Court needs to be taken in light of ongoing events which have brazenly exposed the public support of BJP. People have already given the verdict of BJP’s failure and now I am hopeful our special status will also be returned rightfully as the decision of August 2019 was whimsical, unconstitutional & against the will of people,” he said.

The JKPA’s stance reflects a broader sentiment within the region, as voices continue to advocate for the restoration of special status and the protection of the rights and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
