Srinagar: With further improvement in the weather, the authorities have decided to continue one-way traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
Today, vehicles from Srinagar will be allowed to Jammu, a traffic police spokesman said here.
However, he said the small and passenger vehicles had to cross the Khanabal before noon while trucks and other heavy vehicles have to reach Qazigund by 1400 hrs for Jammu.
No vehicle will be allowed after the deadline, he said adding this measure has been taken to prevent any jam on the highway.
Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essentials for the Kashmir valley, arrived here till late last night from Jammu.
The vehicles were stranded at different places on other side of the Jawahar tunnel for the past four days after the highway was closed due to heavy snowfall and landslides, triggered by heavy rains.
The passengers and truckers, who were stranded on the highway, complained that there was no arrangement for them.
The cost of rice, tea and other essentials was several times high because of the closure of the highway with no official to check the prices, they alleged.
