Srinagar, February 07(KMW: A one-day Digital Banking Mela was held at Srinagar’s Indoor Stadium today. The event was organised by District Administration Srinagar in collaboration with J&K Bank and National Informatics Centre (NIC), Srinagar to create awareness about cashless means of transacting business.
Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion and District Development Commissioner (DDC) Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone was the guest of honour. Senior officials from NIC and J&K Bank were also present.
Almost 20 organisations including public-sector and private banks and other service providers had put up stalls at the venue in order to present various cashless products and services to the public and make them aware about the benefits of migrating to a digital platform.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Khan impressed upon the participants, especially banks, to make the masses aware about the benefits of carrying out monetary transactions through the digital medium and also to educate them about how they can take maximum benefit from these services.
The Div Com said that digital transactions will become the norm in the years to come and people should embark on the journey towards making a paradigm shift towards cashless transactions.
Shri Khan added that the digital medium provides the convenience of transacting with any person in any corner of the world from the comforts of one’s living room and that there are lot of misconceptions among the people with regard to ease of operation and security which need to be addressed.
DDC Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, while addressing the participants, said that the Mela was part of a programme to promote cashless economy throughout the country and it was encouraging to see such an encouraging response at a short notice.
Officials from NIC and J&K Bank also talked in detail at the function about the long-term benefits of adopting the digital medium for monetary transactions.
The Div Com and DDC, accompanied by other senior officials, also went round the venue to inspect the stalls put up by the participants and distributed Point Of Sale machines among business owners at the function.
