Omar presses in service Gas Turbine

4 units of GT Station to generate 100 MWs

Pampore: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today pressed in service the 4 units of 25 MW each Gas Turbine Power Station here to help ease the power deficit situation in the Valley.
By operating the gas turbine the present power availability in the Valley has increased from 950 MWs to 1050 MWs daily. The Chief Minister said that government would endeavour for arranging 50 MWs more power and increase per day availability of electricity in the Valley to 1100 MWs. This, he said, would help to address the increasing demand of electricity in the Valley to greater extent.
Minister of State for Power, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Principal Secretary Power, Sudhanshu Pandey, Development Commissioner Power, District Development Commissioner Pulwama and various Chief Engineers of Power Department were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister was informed that the power crisis in the Valley has deepened due to the current dry spell reducing the water discharge in rivers drastically and telling upon the generation of electricity locally.
The Chief Minister directed the Power Department to put in place every effort to mitigate the difficulties of people on power front. He said availability of power during the evening and morning should be given priority so that people are relieved from the power crisis affects.
Omar Abdullah is likely to review the overall power situation in the Valley and the measures in process to deal with present power crisis at a high level meeting here tomorrow. (KMW News)
