Srinagar: Chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference(HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and other separatist leaders, who were put under house arrest yesterday, have been released.
The security forces deployed outside the residence of Miwaiz Omar and other separatist leaders on May 20 and 21 nights were withdrawn late last night, a spokesman of the HC Shahidul Islam said here today.
He said Mirwaiz and other leaders left for Kupwara, where a rally was organised on the death anniversaries of Moulana Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Ganie Lone, founder of Peoples Conference (PC).
Yesterday, authorities did not allow H C to organise a similar rally at Eidgah, where curfew like situation prevailed after authorities imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPC.
Almost entire separatist leadership, in the Kashmir valley, barring breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was put under house arrest to prevent them from attending a rally at Eidgah on the 21st death anniversary of Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Farooq yesterday.
The decision to impose restriction on the movement of separatists was taken as there was apprehension of breach of peace, the official added.
