Northern Railway celebrates plantation day in Kashmir, appeals citizens to plant trees

Srinagar, August 10(KMW): Northern Railway celebrated Harit Divas, a day dedicated to plantation of trees, in various regions of the Kashmir valley on August 10, 2017. The event was organised under the guidance of the Minister for Railways.
A total of 5000 trees were planted along railway tracks in the railway premises of Srinagar, Budgam and Anantnag districts in a single day. The plantation drive was headed by the Chief Area Manager of Srinagar region of the Northern Railway. Assistant Divisional Engineer, Assistant Mechaical Engineer and Assistant Security Commissioner Railway Police Force were also present on the occasion.
The departments of Forests and Social Forestry also extended cooperation to the railways by making arrangements of saplings for the development of green corridor along the railway tracks of Kashmir valley.
On this occasion, the Railway family of Kashmir valley also issued an appeal to citizens to plant at least five trees in their surroundings for providing a green and healthy atmosphere to the population.
