Nocturnal militant attack on SOG party in Sopore, 1 killed, 4 injured

Srinagar, July 26: A policeman was killed and four others including an Inspector of Special Operation Group sustained injuries after militants opened heavy fire upon them at Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district .

The incident took place at around 2 a.m (during intervening night of July 25/26) when the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police Sopore while chasing a group of alleged stonepelters at Chota Bazar near Jamia Masjid, official sources told.
In the meantime, the militants opened indiscriminate fire upon the SOG team resulting into on spot death of a policeman Mohammad Sayed of Milyal Kupwara and injuring four others, they said.
The four others injured have been identified as Inspector Diraj, Head Constable Yusuful Umar, Constable Anaytullah and Constable Imtiyaz. All the injured have been hospitalized.
Sources said that during nocturnal clashes two protesters Mudasir Yaseen and Muzaffar Ahmad sustained injuries after forces used tear smoke shells to disperse the group of protesting youth in the town.
They said that the group of protesters also torched several municipality dustbins, besides it, they attacked several CRPF bunkers and police station with stones.
Meanwhile, sources said that soon after the incident army, police and CRPF cordoned off the whole area and launched massive searches to nab the attackers. (GNS)
