New Delhi, August 12: The number of militants operating in the state of Jammu & Kashmir have considerably decreased since 1995. There were 6800 (approx) militants of different tanzeems active during the year 1996 in the State which however has got reduced to 240 and 199 in the year 2013 and 2014 (January) respectively.
There is no proposal to withdraw the security forces from the State of Jammu & Kashmir. The deployment of security forces at any point of time is decided based on the review of the threat perception at the highest operational levels in the Central and State Governments.
This was stated by Mr. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs in written reply to a question by Ms. Mehbooba Mufti in Lok Sabha today.
