New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the opposition did not have any case for boycotting Home Minister P Chidambaram in Parliament, as reported,
and hoped that political parties would resist any such temptation.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, he said the government was prepared to discuss any issue in Parliament and wanted the Winter Session to pass off smoothly. He said the Session was very crucial and hoped its proceedings would be peaceful, smooth and result-oriented. “I sincerely hope that this session of Parliament will move smoothly. The government is committed to discussing all issues…As far as the boycott is concerned, I sincerely hope political parties will resist any such temptation. There is virtually no case for a boycott that has been talked about in newspapers,” the Prime Minister said while commenting on media reports that the opposition was gearing up to boycott the Home Minister on the 2G Spectrum scam issue. He urged political parties to cooperate with the government to “push forward” the developmental process, cautioning that the country’s economy could be affected.
