SRINAGAR, JULY 6(KMW): Jammu and Kashmir Government has decided to formulate a New Advertisement Policy to replace the existing policy which was promulgated some two decades back. The New Advertisement Policy would cover the electronic and new media including news portals.
The Empanelment Committee constituted vide Government Order No: 17-ID of 2015 dated: 26-06-2015 would oversee the formulation of the New Advertisement Policy, before the same is placed before the state cabinet for approval. The Committee is headed by the Principal Secretary, Information Department with Director Information, representatives of Home and Finance Departments and representatives of MERC Srinagar and IIMC Jammu as members. Joint Director Information (Headquarters) is the member secretary of the Committee.
“The new advertisement policy would be more broad-based and comprehensive incorporating all the existing media including print, electronic and new media,” said Mr Muneer-ul-Islam, Director Information and Public Relations, whose department is the nodal agency for the formulation of the State’s advertisement policy.
According to Mr Muneer, revisiting and updating the existing Advertisement Policy formulated in 1996 has become imperative in view of the fast-changing media scenario in the State with the new media emerging as a powerful tool of public communication. “The existing policy needs further changes to keep pace with the changing needs,” he said and added that it is with this objective that the department has, on the directions of the Government, begun the process for formulating a New Advertisement Policy, which will for the first time incorporate electronic and new media including news portals.
He said the Committee has decided to involve all the stakeholders in the formulation of the New Advertisement Policy and has sought inputs from the concerned in this regard by 20 July 2015.
