NC-PDP activists clash in non-party based polls

Srinagar: Three persons sustained minor injuries during a clash between rival National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party activists at a polling booth in Chadoora area of Budgam district on Thursday. The Panchayat polls in Srinagar are being contested on non-party basis. Sources told Press Bureau of India that activists of the two rival pro-India parties got tangled into heated arguments which soon turned into a clash at polling booth number 6 at Dadoo, Wanpora.  As a resultvoting at the polling booth had to be suspended for nearly an hour, even as CRPF troops shot two warning shots in the air to disperse the two groups.SHO Chadoora Police Station Manzoor Ahmad told Press Bureau of India that the clash was “minor” and police intervened and brought the situation under control. He said that polls finally ended there peacefully.Meanwhile, authorities cancelled voting at two polling booths in Nuner village of Ganderbal block in central clash following protest by a large number of agitated villagers after they discovered their namesdid not figure in the voter lists.“Fresh polling will take place at these two polling stations on April 25 while the votes polled in the other eight polling stations of Nuner village have been sealed in ballot boxes and deposited in the Ganderbal treasury,” sources said.As per the authorities, the sealed ballot boxes will be carried back to the polling stations in the village on April 25 and counted inpresence of the contestants after fresh polling concludes at the two polling stations. Reports of minor clashes between NC and PDP were also received fromShallabugh village of the district but polls finally ended therepeacefully.
