Srinagar: District commander of Lashker-e-Toiba was among two militants killed in a fierce gun battle with joint team of police and army in Kishtwar district of Jammu region. Officiating Defence ministry spokesman S N Acharya told that acting on information about the presence of militants, Rashtriya Rifles (victor force) and police launched joint a cordon-and-search operation in Sarawan  Keaswan forest belt in the district last evening.“A contact was established this morning with militants who opened indiscriminate fire which was retaliated. In the fierce gun battle that ensued, two Lashker-e-Toiba militants were killed†he said. The identity of slain militants has been established as Sultan Mohammad Bhat alias Noman and Jan Mohammad, both locals, he said. A police spokesman here said that Noman was a self proclaimed District Commander of LeT outfit. Sources meanwhile said that an Ak-47, one grenade, 2 magazines and other ammunition were recovered from the spot. They said that while the operation was still going on, the other militants trapped in the gun battle managed to escape from the spot.
