Srinagar: A local court in north Kashmir district of Kupwara has issued a non-bailable warrant against chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani in connection with a 1985 case registered in a police station.
A Head Constable (HC) of police station Humhama in the central Kashmir served the warrant notice to Geelani, who is under house arrest since this morning in his Hyderpora house.
A spokesman for the HC Aiyaz Akbar confirmed that the non-bailable warrant has been issued by Principal District Session judge, Kupwara.
The warrant was issued in a FIR 30/85 registered in police station Kupwara against Geelani for allegedly inciting people to violence.
However, Mr Akbar said the amalgam chairman was not arrested and he was still under house arrest in his house.
He said the warrant was nothing but to try to pressurise the separatist leader, against whom more than 20 such cases have been registered by the government for demanding right to self determination.
