Srinagar, November 28(KMW): Top Lashkar commander Naveed Jatt and his associate, Riyaz Ahmad of Kakapora Pulwama, were killed in a predawn encounter with forces in Chattergam area of district Budgam.
According to a police communique, forces cordoned off the area based on a specific tip-off and in the ensuing encounter the two militants were killed. Jatt was one of the most feared militant commanders carrying a bounty on his head.
According to police, Jatt and his associate fired upon the searching party from the hideout which triggered a fierce shootout.
Naveed Jatt alias Hanzalla was born in Multan, Pakistan.
Jatt shot to fame after he managed to escape from the custody in the month of February 2018 in a spectacular Hollywood-type attack while he was being taken to SMHS hospital Srinagar for medical treatment from Central Jail Srinagar. In a shootout that took place at the hospital, two policemen were killed. Jatt was earlier arrested in 2014. The slain Laskar commander was involved in the killings of dozens of policemen, paramilitary and army personnel.
