Srinagar: Jamiat Ahli-Hadees Monday announced the formation of a ten-member committee to probe the killing of its president Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah.
After a meeting with leaders of social, religious and pro-freedom groups at the Jamiat’s Barbarshah headquarters,  acting Jamiat president, Ghulam Rasool Malik, told reporters that besides himself  the committee will have chairmen of parallel Hurriyat factions, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik, Aga Syed Hassan Ali Mousavi, Moulana Abbas Ansari ,  Sheikh Mohammad Hassan, Moulana Showket Hussain Keng, Abdul Rehman Bhatt,  and Dr Yusuf as its members.
“After hectic deliberations today, it was decided that the ten-member committee will look at all the aspects of the Maulana’s assassination and utilize all resources to expose the killers. The committee will also seek the co-operation of United Jehad Council during the course of its investigation,” Malik, who will head the probe committee, said.
Regarding the police claim, Malik said that the party is not rejecting it. “To be satisfied, we will probe the killing and will try to identify the culprit.”
Police on Saturday last had claimed to have solved the murder case of Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah by arresting three Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen(TuM) militants—Javed Ahmad Munshi, Nisar Ahmad Khan and Abdul Gani Dar. “Investigations had revealed that a radical religious-political outfit, Sout-ul-Haq, and some other radical elements were behind the assassination,” IGP Srinagar, S M Sahai had said.
Police also claims that the conspiracy to kill Shah was hatched in 2010. “Abdul Ghani Dar aka Abdullah Gazalli and Ashiq Hussain Fakhtoo aka Dr Qasim who is presently lodged in central Jail Srinagar discussed the broad contours of the plan during a visit by Gazalli to Dr Qasim.”
