Militant killed in Rajouri encounter

Srinagar: One militant on Tuesday was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Army and police near Keeri belt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district.
Correspondent from Jammu said that Army’s 8 Mahar early this morning cordoned off Peerbadeswar forward area in Keeri belt following specific information about the presence of a group of heavily armed militants in the area who had infiltrated during the intervening night.
As the Army started combing operation, the militants believed to be more than four in numbers, opened heavy fire on the search time. The fire was returned by the Army sparking off a gun battle.
As the encounter turned fierce, Special Operations Group (SOG) of police reached the spot and assisted the Army. In the ensuing encounter, one unknown militant was killed.
“One infiltrator has been killed so far. The encounter is still in progress,” Army’s Jammu based Spokesman, Lt Col Biplab Nath told.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Jalla said one AK rifle, five magazine, five grenades and some medicines were recovered from the spot.
