Militant killed in Poonch encounter

Jammu: Security forces have gunned down one militant in the ensuing gun battle in bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources here today said.
“Based on a tip-off regarding presence of militants, Army and police last evening launched a search operation in ‘Chamrera Ki Gali’ forest area of Bafliaz in Surankote and on seeing the patrol party militants opened fire which was retaliated and the encounter triggered,” official sources here told.
They said the operation stopped last night and resumed early morning today and in the ensuing gun battle, one militant was gunned down.
“Two Chinese grenades, one UBGL, two pouches, two AK magazines were recovered from the slain militant whose identity is yet to be ascertained,” they added.
Sources further said the area has been cordoned and the operation was in progress as presence of two to three more militants cannot be ruled out.
