“Frequent traffic jams have drastically affected our lives and business. The worst affected are the government employees and students,” Mohd Altaf, a BA student told our correspondent . The locals said the problem gets compounded as Army convoy’s heading for Tangdhar and Lolab sector often pass through the Kupwara town during peak hours.

“Drivers of trucks and Sumo vehicles and other private cars are themselves responsible for traffic mess by parking their vehicles wrongly or racing to leave the town first, consequently ending up in traffic jam,” said the locals.
“Narrow roads, encroachments of pavements by vendors and presence of Bus Stand in the middle of market are the main reasons of traffic jams,” they added.
“Traffic jams can prove detrimental for patients in case of any medical emergency. Ironically, the concerned authorities are acting as mute spectators,” the locals said. They said wrong parking of vehicles on main roads also contributes to traffic jams. “There is a single parking slot in the town. People have no option but to park their vehicles haphazardly,” said Rouf Hussain a local. Ironically, police only regulate traffic movement to facilitate VIP movement.“We appeal the senior Traffic officials to take measures to ensure smooth flow of vehicular traffic,” the residents said.
