New Delhi: Strongly condemning the ruckus by UPA members in the Public Accounts Committee on the draft report on the 2G Spectrum allocation, the BJP today alleged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram “willingly” became part of the 2G scam.
“I am charging that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram (then Finance Minister) have direct complicity in the 2G spectrum scam. Nine out of ten decisions taken by A Raja (former Telecom minister) were in the knowledge of the Prime Minister,” senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha told reporters here.
The BJP leader said Dr Singh and Mr Chidambaram “dumped” their constitutional duty and “willingly” became a part of the scam.
Mr Sinha added that ruckus by Congress-DMK members, who were also supported by one member each of SP and BSP, was a “cover up operation” to hide the corruption by the government.
“Yesterday, a coalition of the corrupt emerged and the rivals SP and BSP joined hands,” he remarked.
The draft 270-page report has criticised Dr Singh for giving an “indirect green signal” to Raja to execute his “unfair and dubious designs” in selling scarce radio waves at throwaway prices.
“How is it possible that Raja took all these decisions and nobody raised a finger?” Mr Sinha, MP from Hazaribagh, asked.
Further attacking Dr Singh, Mr Sinha said, “The so-called honest Prime Minister has been presiding over the largest corrupt empire. The report says that he was a mute spectator during all the 2G scam period.” The BJP leader added that the UPA members “politicised” the Parliamentary Committee and they have thrown the report, prepared after a lot of effort and gathering evidence, in the dustbin.
“For the first time in the history of PAC, the Committee has been politicised. This report is not prepared by Murli Manohar Joshi or any individual alone,” he stated.
Yesterday amid uproar, UPA members outrightly dismissed the PAC draft report at the panel’s meet which saw its chairman and senior BJP leader Mr Joshi storming out of the deliberations.
