New Delhi: Ram Vilas Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party today demanded the Central government to immediately withdraw the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Jammu and Kashmir for alleged abuse by the security forces.
”The shocking report in today’s English daily that the Home Ministry has rejected at least 42 requests to sanction the prosecution of military personnel guilty of crimes such as murder, homicide and rape in Kashmir should open the eyes of those who have stubbornly opposed the withdrawal of AFSPA from Kashmir,” LJP secretary general Abdul Khaliq said in a statement.
”The Lok Janshakti Party strongly condemns the protection afforded by the state to the armed forces people involved in such crimes,” Mr Khaliq added.
Under AFSPA, prior approval is required before prosecution or any other legal action can be initiated against armed forces personnel operating in areas declared ”disturbed” by the government. (KMW News)
