Lakhs join night-long prayers on Shabe-e-Mehraj

Srinagar: Lakhs of devotees joined the night-long special prayers on the occasion of ”Shabe-e-Mehraj”, being celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley with religious fervour and gaiety.Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have greeted people on the occasion.
Night-long prayers were held throughout the Kashmir valley in mosques, Khankhas and other shrines last night.
However, the main congregation was held at Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal, which houses the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad.
Several lakhs people, including women and children, who had come from different parts of the Valley and outside, joined the prayers in the holy shrine where Imams and Khateebs gave lecture on the teachings of Prophet.
The authorities had made adequate arrangements for the devotees.
Hundreds of vehicles were pressed into service for devotees.
After the Fajr prayers (Morning) prayers at 0430 hrs, the devotees had glimpse of Holy Relic at 0500 hrs.
The Holy Relic will be displayed after every prayer during the day for devotees.
Similar prayer meetings were held in historic Jamia masjid, Jenab Sahib Soura, Kalashpora, Kabamarg Shopian and other holy places.
