Mysterious death of a minor: Kupwara shuts, Police constitutes SIT to probe death

Kupwara, July 20: The frontier district Kupwara observed a shutdown on Friday against the mysterious dead of a minor. All the shops and business establishments remained shut while skeletal movement of transport was observed on the roads.

Protests erupted in different parts of district against what people called brutal murder of innocent boy. The protesters demanded justice and fair investigation into the killing.

Pertinently, the charred body of 9 year old minor Umar Farooq of Gulgam Sogam was recovered on Thursday evening in the town. Pal of gloom descended in the town after the news about the death of minor spread in the area. As a precautionary measure the district administration suspended class work on Friday in Degree College Kupwara and Sogam. An official said that the class work remained suspended in GDC Kupwara and Sogam on Friday.

“The decision to suspend the class work had been taken by the administration as a precautionary measure,” said the official.

Meanwhile, Police have constituted SIT to investigate the case.

A police spokesperson said a missing report had been lodged in Kupwara about a minor boy Umar Farooq of Gulgam. “The effort to trace the boy of our community/police since the day of his missing was on.”

“With the recovery of his dead body, Police has constituted a SIT to be headed by the ASP Kupwara and supervised by the District SSP Kupwara to investigate it. Police also sought cooperation of general public for completion of investigation.

Meanwhile, former Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister expressed anguish over the death of minor boy. “The charred and disfigured body of a ten year old minor found in Kupwara is savage beyond imagination. If this doesnt shake the faith of our society what will?” Mehbooba questioned.
