Jammu : A 1977 batch IAS officer of J & K cadre, Muhammad Iqbal Khanday was today appointed as new Chief Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir state.
This was decided in the meeting of the state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here this morning.
Khanday will replace Madhav Lal who is proceeding to Delhi to take over as Secretary Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise in Government of India.
Khandey is expected to take over his new job later in the afternoon.
Iqbal Khanday is 5th state subject to reach the top slot of state’s bureucracy since 1990 after C Phunsog, Vijay Bakaya, SS Bloeria and Sheikh Ghulam Rasool.
Meanwhile, senior IAS officer, B B Vyas will take over as the Financial Commissioner Finance. He will hold the post as additional charge to his existing assignments.
