Jammu: A Special Task Force (STF) personnel was today killed in an ensuing encounter with the militants in the remote area of mountainous Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Based on a tip-off regarding the presence of a top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) district commander Mohammad Amin alias Jahangir along with an unidentified associate, the troopers of Rashtriya Rifle and STF last night launched a search operation in Bakhrari area of Pinjar,” police sources said.
They said the interception between the patrol party and the militants was established in the morning, following which the gun-battle started.
“The militants opened fire at the search party which was retaliated. One STF personnel, identified as Bilal, was killed in exchange of fire,” they added.
The area has been cordoned and the operation was in progress until last reports came in.
Jahangir is one of the oldest surviving and ‘most wanted’ militant of the area and has been operating as District Commander of HM in Kishtwar belt since 1998.
