Srinagar: Life was crippled in the Valley due to a general strike call given by Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) supported by Er. Hilal War’s People’s Political Party (PPP) against the killing of a student by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), protesting power curtailment and other alleged anti people policies of the coalition government, which completed three years in power yesterday.
Shops and business establishments in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, remained closed and traffic was off the roads. However, some private vehicles could be seen plying on some uptown and civil line routes. Three wheelers had yet another field day, charging extra rates from passengers in the absence of public transport. Work in the government offices was also affected due to strike as employees could not make it to their offices in the absence of transport.
State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses also remained off the roads.
As per our reporter from Baramulla, life was affected due to the strike with all shops and business establishments remaining closed in this and other north Kashmir districts and tehsil headquarters.
The streets in Srinagar especially the down town locality as well as civil lines area including Maisuma and Lal Chowk which closely fall under Er. War’s circle of influence almost wore a deserted look with only security forces and state police personnel deployed on both sides of the roads as majority people remained indoors due to strike well as cold because of snowfall late last night. Business and other activities remained paralysed due to strike in this and other south Kashmir districts. Similar reports were also received from other parts of the Kashmir valley. (KMW News)
