Srinagar: Emphasizing the right to self determination for Kashmiris was non-negotiable, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Thursday said no solution to the Kashmir issue was possible within the framework of Indian constitution.
Responding to a query about New Delhi’s interlocutor, Dilip Padgaonkar’s suggestion that PDP’s “Self Rule†was a viable document for resolving the problem, Mirwaiz said no solution within the current framework was possible and acceptable to Kashmiris.
“Hurriyat Conference stands by its policy that Kashmir is a political problem and it can only be resolved if India, Pakistan and the Kashmir leadership start a process of dialogue, focused on the resolution of Kashmir issue. But as far as the right to self determination is considered, it’s non-negotiable,†Mirwaiz said.
On the US Envoy to Afghanistan, late Richard Holbrooke’s involvement in Kashmir affairs Mirwaiz said that Holbrooke was involved in talks with India and Pakistan,  and “to some extend with the Kashmiri leadership.â€
“He definitely played a positive role,†Mirwaiz said.
In response to China’s apparent change in its “stapled visa policy†for Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz said it would have impact as Kashmir would still remain a dispute.
He said as a major regional player with huge responsibility in the region, China can pressurize India and Pakistan for the settlement of Kashmir issue.
Rejecting Jammu and Kashmir police’s claim that separatist leaders used money to fuel this year’s summer agitation, Mirwaiz said New Delhi and its security establishment were desperate to mislead people by suggesting that people were out on the roads for monetary gains.
“First, the JK police’s reputation of making such claims is known  to all of us. Secondly, it is time for New Delhi and the security, law enforcing agencies to come out of this denial mode and accept that whatever happened during the last six months was people’s reaction to injustice, oppression, and suppression,†he said.
