Srinagar, July 12 (KMW): Apprehending trouble on commemoration of July 13 martyrs day especially in Shehar-e-Khas and down town areas, the authorities have decided to put restrictions in Srinagar city on Sunday.
Sources told KMW that a high-level meeting was held on Saturday to review the law and order situation and the possible disturbance on July 13 when almost all separatist groups try to visit Mazar-e-Shohada to pay obeisance. The meeting which was attended by civil and police officers decided to bar public assemblies in Srinagar city in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the summer capital.
Meanwhile, according to a government handout, for maintaining law and order, peace and tranquilly in the Srinagar city, the District Magistrate, Srinagar has imposed restrictions on the movement of public and Transport under section 144 Cr.P.C in the jurisdiction Police Stations of Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, Safakadal and M R. Gunj of the district w.e.f midnight of 12th July, 2014 with immediate effect.
Kashmiris across the world observe “Martyrs’ Day†on July 13, every year. The day is commemorated in the memory of 21 Kashmiris who were shot dead, one after the other, outside the Srinagar Central jail by the troops of Dogra Maharaja, where they had gathered to attend the court proceedings against one, Abdul Qadeer, who was alleged for instigating Kashmiri people to defy Dogra rule. Pertinently, various separatist factions have called complete strike on July 13 in commemoration of sacrifices offered by the martyrs. (KMW)
