BSF officer killed, 2 army men injured in Machil sector

Srinagar, July 12: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of border Security Force (BSF) was killed and two army men injured seriously after a vehicle in which they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Machil sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.

Official sources told that a vehicle bearing registration number 12C-096595H of army’s 56 RR bn that was on its way from Katwar to Khanbal in Machil sector, the driver of the vehicle lost the control over it resulting into the mishap around 4:00 pm today.
“The vehicle overturned and fell down into a deep gorge”, sources said, adding that an officer of 69 bn BSF and two soldiers of 56 RR sustained serious injuries.
All the injured soldiers were airlifted to army’s 92-base hospital here in Srinagar where Sub-Inspector of BSF, Om Prakash Yadav (belt No. 12440092) succumbed to injuries, sources said.
They identified the two army men as Sepoy Gopal Kumar Singh (belt no. 152180139-M) and Sepoy Marli Manohar Modi Lal (belt no. 2806531-H) of 56 RR. “The condition of both the injured soldiers is said to be critical”.
The ASI, Om Prakash of BSF who was hailing from district Sikar in Rajasthan, according to officials was travelling in the army vehicle towards home on leave. (GNS)
