Jammu, January 3(KMW): After nearly year long celebrations to mark the Platinum Jubilee of J&K Bank, a concluding function was held here this evening at the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in the Jammu University. Mr. N.N. Vohra, Governor, was the Chief Guest, Mr. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister presided over the function, and Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Finance and Ladakh affairs was the Guest of Honour.
A Coffee Table book on the growth of the J&K Bank since its inception was unveiled by Governor Vohra and other dignitaries.
Congratulating the Chairman, the State Government and the management of the Bank on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Governor complimented the Bank for progressively enlarging the scale of quality financial services and providing high satisfaction to all its customers.
The Governor thanked the Bank for the valuable help it provides to the Chief Executive Officers of both the Mata Vaishno Devi and the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board for the registration of the pilgrims and fund management of the Boards. He hoped that, in the coming time, the Bank would do much more for advancing the growth of agriculture and horticulture, food processing, establishment of cold chain and other activities, throughout the State, as this would greatly contribute to employment generation. He wished the Bank phenomenol success in achieving equity and inclusive growth in all sectors.
Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister said that he expects the Bank to play a much larger role in the national and international markets and said that he hoped that it sets its own standards and have a vision of all that it wanted to achieve by the time it celebrates its Centenary.
Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs said that J&K bank has been providing quantitative and qualitative leadership in the banking sector in the State as in 12 districts of the State it is acting as the Lead Bank. He highlighted the achievements of the J&K Bank and said that it has done tremendously well in achieving the targets laid down under Priority Sector Lending, CD Ratio etc. by the Reserve Bank of India and is also moving towards Electronic Benefit transfers.
The Welcome Address was presented by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Chairman and CEO, J&K Bank. He gave a brief account of the history and growth of the J&K Bank. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Mr. Vikrant Kuthiala, Director, J&K Bank.
A scintillating cultural programme, based on music and folk dances of the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh was presented on the occasion.
Choudhary Ramzan, Minister for CAPD, Mian Altaf, Minister for Forests, Mr. Mir Saifullah, Minister for Law, Legislator, Choudhary Zulfiqar, Mr. Jalil Ahmad Khan, Economic Advisor to the State government were present on the occasion.
