JAMMU: Minister for Youth Sports and Services, Mr. R. S. Chib today held a high level meeting to review arrangements for 57th National School Games to be held from 15th to 20th December 2011 at Jammu.
During the event, two Championships viz Cricket under-19 (Girls) and Wushu under 19 (Boys& Girls) will be organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in which 700 participants from 30 States and UTs are expected to participate. These competitions will be held at M. A. Stadium, Jammu University, MSS Sainik Colony, playground Arnia and Indoor Sports Complex.
Commissioner Sports, Secretary Sports Council, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Inspector General of Police, Mr. H. K. Lohia, Director Youth Sports and Services, Director School Education, Deputy Director Information and senior officers of Municipal Corporation, Tourism, Health, Police, PHE, PDD, and Cultural Academy were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister exhorted upon the officers to ensure that all necessary arrangements have been put in place well in time for successful conduct of this mega event. “Sports help in strengthening national integration besides providing an opportunity to people to share their culture and traditions “, he maintained. He said that conduct of such national events will certainty help in sending a message of changed air in the subcontinent across the nation and the world as well.
Referring to the significance of this national sports event in the state, Mr. Chib emphasized the need of strong synchronization among all the concerned agencies. He asked them to put in collective efforts for smooth and successful conduct of these games as such event symbolizes the culture and hospitality of the host.
Mr. Chib said that there is tremendous sports potential among the youth of the state and the government is extending every support to tap this unexplored talent. Besides, all the sports stadia in the state are being equipped with modern technological innovations to enable the sportspersons to prove their metal at national and international level.
It was informed in the meeting that the inauguration and concluding function of both the events will be held at M. A. Stadium and a Control Room has been established at Sports House, M. A. Stadium to monitor the arrangements for the event.
Meanwhile, it was decided in the meeting that the transportation will be ensured jointly by the Police and Youth Services and Sports departments. Besides, other arrangements like power and water supply, cleanliness, hoardings, boarding and lodging for players, decoration etc were also deliberated upon in detail.
A cultural evening will also be organized during the event.
Later, the Minister addressed a press conference and elaborated on the arrangements made for successful conduct of this mega sports event.
