JAMMU: The 3- day Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Sports Festival 2011, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under its Civic Action Programme concluded here today at Mini Stadium, Parade.

About 1200 players from the three districts of Jammu, Samba and Kathua participated in the competitions in various games during the police department sponsored sports event which also aimed at providing a platform for better public – police understanding.
The sports festival which witnessed a series of thrilling Indian Style wrestling bouts was inaugurated by the Director General of Police, Mr Kuldeep Kudha on October 17.
The valedictory function was marked by a colourful cultural programmne, followed by the distribution of Medals, trophies and other prizes among the winners and conferring of titles to the wrestlers under various weight categories.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Khajuria hailed the police department for organising the sports event, which primarily aimed at evolving a better understanding between police and public. He said better policing cannot become possible without a better understanding between police and people.
“Through these events we get an opportunity to watch extraordinary performances of the outstanding sports persons, besides encouraging the potential lot †former DGP said.
Mr Kahjuria also appreciated the concept of promoting the traditional games like Indian Style Wrestling and said that this made the festival more colourful and attractive.
Sharing his experience as the head of the Police Department, he said it is due to the sacrifices made by its personnel that J&K Police has attained a distinction among the police forces of other states of the country. He said that J&K Police has done yeoman’s job by extending helping hand to the next of kin of the martyrs and hoped that it will continue its endeavours to provide all possible help to them in future as well.
On the occasion, a colourful cultural programme was also presented by the artists of Information Department Jammu.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, DIG, Jammu- Kathua Range, Mr. Farooq Khan, highlighted the objective of organizing this festival. He said the fundamental aim of the sports event was to fill the gap between public and police. He also highlighted the activities of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Among others, Retd. ADGP Mr. S. S. Wazir, IGP Jammu Zone Mr. Dilbag Singh, IGP Armed Police, Joint Director Information Jammu Mr. Soujanya Sharma, Senior officers of Civil and Police, Youth Services and Sports, besides families of Martyr, teachers, large number of students were also present on the occasion.
