Jammu Airport Frisking Humiliating for Kashmiris

Jammu: Sometimes they overdo it and humiliate us probably because we are Kashmiris rather Kashmiri Muslims,” lamented a Young Passenger who as per him was virtually stripped in the guise of security check. This is the general scene of prejudiced frisking of Kashmiri Muslims at the Jammu Airport .Its unfortunate to discover that only the Kashmir Muslims are frisked in such a humiliating and wild manner, while others have to go for normal and respectable frisking.
Such scenes have more recently victimized the editor-in-chief of Kashmir Media Watch (news portal), Ajaz Ahmad War on Friday,07 October, 2011, when even he had to go through the same humiliating process of frisking at the Jammu Airport, while returning back to Kashmir from Chandigarh.
“If you are a Kashmiri Muslim, You’re sort of treated like a criminal at the Jammu Airport and if you try to resist this humiliating way of frisking you are threatened of dire consequences,” lamented Editor Kashmir Media Watch.
Kashmiri travelers feel that this disgraceful manner of frisking is adding fuel to the fire of alienation and conveys a wrong signal to the people of Kashmir and in a way showing them that they are as good as an “enemy force” rather than being a part of the “national fabric”.
Passengers say that they understand the importance of frisking at airports so as to prevent attacks from extremist elements, but making it a group specific and that too humiliating frisking of that section adds to the annoyance and agony of the tormented Kashmiri folk. The authorities at stake must take serious note of this so that the hard earned harmony of the state is not disturbed and the prosperity of the state as a single whole is maintained as always.
