Srinagar, (KMW News): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has said the initiatives like all party conference should lead to resolution of problems rather than merely managing a particular event of serious nature. This she said while intervening in the discussions on recent nexalite attack in Chatisgarh held in New Delhi today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Expressing her grief at the loss of life in Chatisgarh incident and condemning the use of violence Mehbooba said the all party conference reminded her of a similar initiative on Kashmir in the wake of civilian killings by government forces. She said very tragic incidents in which 120 innocent youth were killed in Kashmir in 2010 had brought all political parties together to discuss that situation. That meeting she said had decided to send an all party delegation to reach out to the people of Kashmir. “That delegation cutting across party lines had expressed pain and regret about what had happened and had comeback with their impression from Kashmir on the overall situation” Mehbooba said.
Mehbooba said this was followed by appointment of interlocutors who made some recommendations but till date no action has been taken either by the state or the central government which significantly are being run by an alliance at both levels. She said instead of taking action against the killers of the 120 youth thousands of cases were framed against peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the bloodshed caused by police. She said inspite of an announcement to do so the cases against the youth have not been withdrawn. Only hollow slogans are being raised for revocation AFSPA without any progress on the ground, added Mehbooba.
Pleading for serious effort at resolution of problems Mehbooba expressed the hope that the decisions taken in today’s meeting on the resolutions passed do not meet the same fate as the all party initiative of 2010 on Kashmir.
