ICDS & Education Department Zanskar Celebrate International Day of Women and Girls in Science at GHS Karsha

Zanskar, February 12: The ICDS Department Zanskar, in collaboration with the Education Department Zanskar, today celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science at Government High School Karsha, Zanskar.

The event aimed to promote awareness and encourage women and girls to pursue education and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), thereby fostering gender equality and empowerment in the scientific field.

Dr. Tsetan, Gynecologist, CHC Padum, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while BDO Karsha was the Guest of Honour. The Principal, Higher Secondary School Padum attended the function as the Special Guest.

The event was also attended by Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Zanskar Tsewang Dorjay, CDPO Tashi Gurmath, Chairman SMDC GHS Karsha Tashi Tundup, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers of Karsha Youlsum, staff and students of Government High School Karsha, along with other distinguished guests.

The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Tenzin Dhakpa, Teacher, Government High School Karsha, who highlighted the importance of celebrating this day and the role of education in empowering girls.

In her keynote address, Dr. Tsetan emphasized the importance of women’s health and adolescent awareness, stressing the need for proper health education, nutrition, and timely medical guidance for adolescent girls.

The Zonal Education Officer Zanskar, Tsewang Dorjay, highlighted various government schemes being implemented in schools across Zanskar, focusing on students’ academic development, health, and overall well-being.

The BDO Karsha elaborated on the Aspirational Block Programme, detailing its objectives and the various developmental initiatives being carried out in educational institutions and villages of Karsha Block.

An interactive session was also held, during which students actively engaged with the speakers, asking insightful questions and sharing their views, making the programme lively and informative.

The event was further enriched by colourful cultural performances presented by the students of Government High School Karsha, which showcased local culture and talent and added vibrancy to the celebration.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tashi Tundup, Chairman SMDC, Government High School Karsha, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, departments, teachers, students, and organizers for their valuable participation and support.

The event successfully reinforced the message of empowering women and girls through education and science, inspiring students to aspire towards careers in STEM fields.
