Hurriyat (M) to open office in New Delhi

Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) is contemplating to open an office in New Delhi and the decision in this regard will be taken soon after the executive members of the amalgam meet here, sources told .

They said to make aware civil society groups aware about the situation in Kashmir; Hurriyat (M) has decided to open an office in New Delhi.
“To keep civil society groups and other people aware about the Kashmir situation, the Hurriyat has decided to open the office. It will also help the Hurriyat to keep close coordination with diplomats of other countries,” a senior Hurriyat leader told.
He said that Government of India was creating misunderstanding about the Kashmir issue and it was imperative to aware people of India about the facts.
It is pertinent to mention here that undivided Hurriyat had its office in New Delhi which was closed in 2003 after two Hurriyat leaders Shabir Ahmad Dar and Zamruda Habib were arrested by the Delhi Police on the charges of allegedly receiving hawla money.
Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaz Umar Farooq said that they were seriously thinking about opening the office in New Delhi. “Kashmir issue has several dimensions which includes economic and human dimensions. The aim to establish the office in New Delhi is to make aware foreign diplomats and civil society about the happenings in Kashmir,” Mirwaiz told.
He claimed that wrong impression was being created about Kashmir issue. “India tells its people that whatever is happening in Kashmir, Pakistan is behind that which isn’t a fact. 2008, 2009 and 2010 movements were indigenous as Kashmiris were raising voices against the human rights violations. But India was creating misunderstanding by claiming that Pakistan was behind it,” he added.
The Hurriyat (M) chairman said that keeping in view these facts the amalgam has decided to open its office in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar, said that they had no such proposal to open office in New Delhi. “We aren’t allowed to run offices in Jammu and Kashmir and under the circumstances opening an office outside the state is impossible,” he told.
He alleged that Government of India and National Conference had waged a war against Hurriyat (G). “Even when Geelani sahib is in Delhi, police and agencies keep him under siege. When Geelani sahib talks on phone, that time also a large contingent of police remains around the Hurriyat office,” he added. (KNS)
