Srinagar: Despite light snowfall at several stretches along the 296-kilomter Srinagar-Jammu highway, almost 700 trucks carrying essential commodities including LPG gas moved towards the valley on the vital thoroughfare on Wednesday.

IGP traffic, Hemant Kumar Lohia told that 700 trucks loaded with the essential reached valley till evening.
He said there will be one-way traffic on the highway from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow as well and the priority will be given to trucks carrying essentials to the Valley. “No traffic from Srinagar to Jammu will be allowed.”
He also said that 144 vehicles, trapped in avalanche prone Zigmode, were allowed towards Jammu.
While the highway opened last evening for stranded trucks after three days of blockade due to heavy snowfall, the authorities have not allowed any passenger vehicle to and from Kashmir on the highway, considered as lifeline for the valley. (KMW News)
