Kashmir is a bone of contention between India and Pakistan, the two nuclear powers of South Asia. It was India which knocked at the door of UNO to invite debate on Kashmir. UNO, in its UNCIP resolutions of Aug. 13-1948 and Jan. 5-1949, while recognizing and emphasizing Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, impressed upon India and Pakistan to facilitate a referendum and plebiscite in Kashmir so that Kashmiris would determine their political future in a peaceful democratic way.
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, as the Prime Minister of India, had already made a promise and pledge on Nov.11-1947 at Lal chowk Srinagar that Kashmiris would be allowed to determine the political future of Kashmir through a referendum−the democratic verdict. Indian rulers, instead of implementing the UN resolutions on Kashmir, blatantly reneged on their commitment regarding a plebiscite in Kashmir. The self-conceited egotists of Delhi, due to their imperialistic mindset and fixation, adopted Chanakiyan and Macavellian philosophy of deceit in dispensation to strangulate Kashmir.
Delhi rulers, as ideal chauvinists and fascists, opted for imperialistic stratagem to deal with Kashmiri resistance activists. These authoritarian rulers used all modes of coercion and repression, as effective implement and battering ram, to subjugate Kashmir and make Kashmiris acquiesce in. They were always ruthless and merciless in their colonial dispensation in Kashmir. They-through their jackbooted, overbearing and domineering attitude and approach-tried their best to make resilient Kashmiris kowtow to their boots. Delhi liege lords, through overt and covert modes and methods of guile and vile, tried to proselytize Kashmiris. However the self-respecting conscientious Kashmiris were always prompt, as dexterous and deft resistance votaries, in giving a psychological and political rebuff and rebuttal to them.
Kashmiri freedom zealots did not swerve, waver or vacillate in their resistance. They adroitly sustained the struggle for Azadi. They displayed commendable and praiseworthy resilience in their campaign against the onslaught of India in Kashmir. Indian stratocracy, camouflaged by sham and farcical elections here, wants to provide some sort of semblance to Indian democracy to scour off the slur and blemish of imperialistic rowdyism and scourge. Delhi rulers were always engaged in Macavellian machination to upkeep their leverage in Kashmir.
Protomartyr Maqbool Bhat was the first ideal guerrilla strategist to propound the idea of armed resistance in Kashmir. The revolutionary freedom zealot− without swerving, veering, sheering or vacillating in the anti-India campaign− remained steadfast in his resistance and perfectly wedded to the cause of right to self-determination with mystic devotion. He was, in fact, an ideal freedom doctrinist who inspired and imbued Kashmiris with hope and confidence. Kashmiris take pride in identifying themselves with Maqbool Bhat, the pioneer of armed resistance movement in Kashmir. Afzal Guru had the honour to vie with him and follow in his footstep. Maqbool Bhat, the freedom icon, was gibbeted on Feb. 11-1984 (Saturday; 9th of Jamad-ul-Awwal 1404 AH) at 7:30am in Tihar jail even without the hearing of the cases he had been implicated in. Afzal Guru was haltered on Feb. 9-2013 (Saturday; 27th of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1434 AH) at 8am in the same Tihar jail. The whole Kashmiri nation felt astounded, shocked, aggrieved and traumatized. Hanging of Afzal Guru, in fact, marks the beginning of a new phase of resistance in Kashmir.
Afzal Guru, as the ideal disciple of Maqbool Bhat, meta-physically orchestrated the impact-episode of Feb. 11-1984 when Maqbool Bhat was hanged despite his mercy appeal which had been rejected by arrogant dictatorial Delhi rulers on Feb. 8-1984 the way the mercy appeal of Muhammad Afzal Guru was rejected on Feb. 3-2013 by the haughty and myopic authorities of New Delhi. Kashmiris, instead of conveying the implicit or explicit message of capitulation or defeatism, felt infuriated, invigorated, emotionalized and inspired.
The two million youth of Kashmir that straddles the Loc have resolved to impart impetus to the resistance movement of their beloved homeland. They are determined to follow in the footsteps of Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru come what may. The barbarian act of hanging boomeranged and recoiled. It will, in days to come, vividly prove counterproductive. Delhi rulers did succeed in displaying imperialistic machismo; however the exhilaration will be short-lived, ephemeral and transitory. A pall of gloom and disillusionment will soon overcast the system of totalitarian dispensation. Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru, the monotheists who had a tryst with ‘Jannat’ through their heroic freedom struggle and martyrdom will continue to command respect for centuries to come. Hats off to them for their exemplary role. We are proud of paying homage to them for their patriotism, devotion and spirit of sacrifice. The progeny will remember them with love and respect.
Headhunting is the only prioritized modus operandi of Delhi rulers to address the volatile situation of Kashmir. How long will the imperialists of New Delhi tread the path of intransigence, obduracy and stubbornness? Delhi liege lords are, due to their chauvinistic mindset and proclivity for anachronistic regressive nationalism, hell-bent on tinkering, flirting and trifling with Kashmir issue. Kashmiris feel fed up with their coquetry, levity and lassitude. They are flirting with Kashmir problem at the cost of solace and tranquility of crores of impoverished people of South Asia.
It is deplorable that Pakistan’s ineptitude, mismanagement and even defeatist approach emboldened Indian rulers. Why did Pak rulers disband Azad Kashmir army four decades back? Why are the revolutionaries, who vociferously emphasize the levying of Azad Kashmir youth for a “razakar†force, victimized? Why did you start thinking about according MFN status to India even without the settlement of Kashmir issue? Why did you neutralize the role of Azad Kashmir establishment as a revolutionary government in exile? So you, consciously or unconsciously, strengthened the position of Delhi rulers in Kashmir. Why should Pakistan as a nuclear power, having parity with India in unconventional deterrence, play second fiddle in the arena politics of South Asia? We are looking at you with hope and scepticism. Our co-religionists and compatriots across the Loc should ponder over our outpourings with intuitive concentration and objectivity.
