HC quashes PSA detention of Masrat Alam, 17 others

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashed detention orders under Public Safety Act of Muslim League Chairman Masrat Alam Bhat and 17 others on Friday.After hearing the arguments from Kashmir Bar Association president, advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom, Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussainquashed detention under PSA of Alam, General Secretary of Hurriyat Conference (G). Masrat Alam Bhat was arrested by police during a raid in Telbal area in outskirts of here on October 18 last year. Subsequently state administration booked him under PSA and was lodged in Jammu Jail.Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain also quashed the detention under the PSA against Ali Mohammad Gojri     of Baramulla, detainee’s counsel advocate Mir Shafaqat told.    Meanwhile, advocate Mir Shafaqat said that Justice Hasnain Massodi quashed detention under PSA against seventeen detainees under the PSA Act.Seven of the 17 detainees were represented by advocate Mir Shafaqat and the detainees include Obaid Ahmad Misger son of Showkat Ahmad of Anantnag, Mohammad Ayoub Lone son of Abdul Ahad of Kakapora, Pulwama, Waseem Ahmad Zargar son of Mohammad Shafi of Guru Bazar here, Zubair Ahmad Khan son of Gul Zaman Khan of Sheri Baramulla, Jan Mohammad Wagay son of Gaffar of Bijbhera, Umar Gul Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan of Bijbhera and Majid Yousuf of Mattan Anantnag.     The nine other detainees against whom PSA detentions were quashed include Javaid Ahmad Dar, Zahoor Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Iqbal Teeli, Shamim Ahmad Mir, Muzaffarabad Ahmad Sheikh, Irshad Ahmad Ganie, Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Ali Lone and Mohammad Yasin Dar.    Advocate Mehraj Azim; advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom and M Ashraf Wani pleaded the cases on behlf of the detainnes.
