Govt launched several schemes to uplift poor: Bhalla

JAMMU: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Mr. Raman Bhalla assured the inhabitants of Valmiki Colony in Gandhi Nagar that their development related issues would be redressed in a phased manner adding focus of the Government to develop all the poor and downtrodden basties on modern lines by providing basic amenities like safe drinking water, power, better roads, bye-lanes, drains, besides educational and healthcare infrastructure.
This was stated by the Minister while interacting with the people after launching Rs. 8.40 lakh development works at Valmiki Nagar, here today.
The Minister said the Government was fully aware of hardships of weaker sections of the society and making all out efforts to mitigate on priority basis adding there is no constraint of funds. He hoped that the people will cooperate with executing agencies in effective implementation of development works in their basties.
Mr. Bhalla said Government has launched number of welfare schemes to upgrade the living standard of the poor. He said central Government is committed to remove poverty from every corner of the country. He asked the people to avail the benefits of such schemes launched under BSUP, PMGSY, IAY etc.
Mr. Bhalla asked the officers to reach the people and mitigate their hardships on priority. He warned the officers against any laxity with regard to the solving of problems of the poor lot adding that any complaint in this regard would invite strict action against the delinquent officers and officials.
The Minister asked the land grabbers to evict the State land voluntarily otherwise be ready to face action adding Government has constituted a special squad for eviction of encroachments on state land and the help of Police department would also be taken to deal with those who would create problems in stopping the development works on Government land. He said such types of practices are creating hindrances for them during eviction of land forcefully.
The Minister informed that Government has provided a financial assistance worth Rs. 3.12 lakh under Basic Services to Urban Poor (BSUP) state subject beneficiaries for construction of their houses. He appealed the poor lot to approach the concerned authorities and fulfill all the codal formalities so that the financial assistance under BSUP could be disbursed among them. He said under BSUP would get relief in three installments which include Rs 1 lakh each as first and second installments and Rs 1.12 lakh as third installment. He asked the beneficiaries to use funds judiciously for construction of pacca houses.
Mr. Bhalla impressed upon the officers to maintain transparency in distribution of central and state financial assistance among the needy besides ensuring its timely disbursement among them. He said that Government is keen to address weaker section’s concerns on priority and the administrative machinery is being geared up for timely redressal of the grievances of the people.
