Jammu: No kind of municipal waste would be allowed to be dumped in River Tawi in view of its heritage and water usage value. This was decided at a high level meeting of officers chaired by Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi ud Din today.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to look for alternative sites where the waste could be dumped and it was resolved that a joint team of officers of JMC, Revenue and Irrigation & Flood Control Departments would visit various sites in the outskirts of the city so that the municipal waste of the Jammu city is dumped properly and destroyed scientifically.
Mr. Taj asked the said team of officers to ensure that dumping sites are kept away mandatorily from airport premises to ensure safety of passengers from any bird hit due to waste dumping in nearby areas.
The Minister reminded the participants in the meeting that dumping of waste in the Tawi would attract relevant provisions of J&K Water Resources & Management Act-2010 and anyone indulging in it would be dealt with accordingly.
Present in the meeting were Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner-Secretary, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr. B. D. Sharma, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Jammu, Mr. Ashwani Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner, JMC and other officers.
