Govt implemented SC NRO verdict: PPP

ISLAMABAD: The government has acted upon the Supreme Court verdict on NRO and the president enjoys immunity under the Constitution, agreed the Core Committee of Pakistan People’s Party at a meeting co-chaired by the President and Prime Minister.

According to sources, the PPP Core Committee’s meeting chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani also said that the Federation had submitted its reply on the memogate case.

It further said that the reply of the Federation meant a reply from the President Asif Ali Zardari.

All the key leaders of PPP participated in the meeting and reposed their firm confidence in the highest leadership of the party.

They said PPP leaders and workers had rendered sacrifices for the restoration of judiciary.

The meeting resolved to take all the coalition partners along and to stay on track towards building the democracy and ensuring supremacy of the parliament.

It decided to reorganize the party at lower ranks.

Sources said the meeting also denounced the idea of Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif of setting up military courts in Karachi.

The sources further said that the ministers and PPP leaders who were served show cause notices from the Supreme Court would appear before it.

The meeting decided that PPP would play its active role towards carving out of new provinces in South Punjab and Hazara. (KMW News)
