JAMMU: Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, has emphasized the need for organizing a month long activities for the observance of the Armed Forces Flag Day to effectively highlight the significant role played by the Armed Forces to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity and, during peace time, providing valuable support to the civilian authorities to provide succour to the people affected by natural calamities.
The Governor said this while launching the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund collection drive by contributing towards the Fund at a function held at Raj Bhavan, here today.
The Governor observed that for generating adequate awareness among the people at large about the significant importance of the Armed Forces Flag Day, screening of documentaries on the Armed Forces, cultural shows, publication of suitable articles in the newspapers, panel discussions and various other programmes should be organized during the entire month of December. He added that this would, besides generating resources towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, enable the people to know much more about their Armed Forces. He said that Army formations in the State should be associated with this effort and, further, suitable programmes organized in the educational institutions for the benefit of the students.
While appealing to the people to donate generously towards the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund, the Governor lauded the crucial role of the Armed Forces in J&K, both during war and in peace, and observed that their sacrifices bear testimony to their bravery, devotion and dedication. He mentioned that this Day is a solemn occasion to express our gratitude and solidarity with them and their families.

Goyal, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Maj. Gen. (Retd) G. S. Jamwal, President, J&K Ex-Services League, Brig. (Retd) R. S. Langeh, Director, Sainik Welfare, J&K, Maj. Gen (Retd) S. K. Sharma, Brig. (Retd) K. S. Kotwal, Brig. (Retd) R. S. Jamwal and other retired Army officers.
