Governor distributes prizes among best adjudged participants

SRINAGAR: Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, today said that there is enormous sports talent and high potential among the youth of the State and, given adequate opportunities, they can excel in various games and sports at the national level.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was addressing after giving away prizes to the best adjudged participants of the 2-day Workshop-cum-Yoga Competition at its concluding function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium Complex here today. The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council.
The Governor observed that while various sports activities help in building stamina and physical endurance, the practice of Yoga also contributes to the practitioner enjoying sound health and a very healthy mind. He expressed his happiness on the large number of young children who participated in this competition from various educational institutions of the Kashmir Valley, adding that the high quality demonstration given by some of the children in various Yogic exercises on this occasion speaks volumes of their potential to attain higher levels. He said that if these young children get the required training they have the potential to achieve very great heights. He stressed the need for Yoga being taught in a large number of schools, as this does not require large additional resources and, besides, will contribute to the students maintaining physical fitness.
The Governor congratulated the J&K State Sports Council for organizing this competition. He distributed prizes among the participants whose performance was adjudged the best and wished the children a bright future ahead. He also gave away prizes to the teachers, Yoga instructors, members of the Technical Committee and officials for their strong support in making this competition a success.
The Governor was honoured on the occasion by presenting to him a memento by Mr. R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports.
Earlier, on arrival at the Indoor Stadium, the Governor was received by hundreds of children who were present on the occasion.
In his welcome address, Mr. R. S. Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports gave details of the various activities being organized for promoting sports in the State. He also dwelt on the new sports infrastructure being set up for this purpose. He thanked the Governor for taking keen interest in the over all development and growth of the State.
Mr. Kiran Wattal, Secretary, State Sports Council presented a Vote of Thanks.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Mr. K. Rajendra Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Armed/Law and Order, functionaries and members of the Sports Council and a large number of participating children, their instructors and teachers.
