Governor directs local authorities to make Srinagar among the cleanest cities

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 17: Governor N.N. Vohra asked the officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to work as a cohesive team in close coordination with all other concerned departments to effectively deliver civic amenities to the local residents and all those who visit this capital town.
The Governor stressed the need to make Srinagar as one of the cleanest cities in the country and secure a high rank under the Swachh Bharat Mission. He directed the officials to ensure application of the modern technologies for the collection and management of waste collected in the capital city. Observing that Srinagar was a premier tourist destination the Governor underlined the need for every effort being made to restore its pristine glory. In this context, he pointed out, concrete steps shall need to be taken for effective solid waste management, including segregation of wastes of various categories, at the household, shop, factory etc levels. For a longer term solution of the fast increasing solid wastes the Governor asked Chief Secretary to take an urgent meeting and evolve a pragmatic approach regarding the identification of the preferred technology for solid waste management and the steps required for achieving waste- to- energy conversion. He desired to hold a further meeting on 2nd March, 2016 to decide any remainder issues.
The Governor directed that accountability should be fixed at every level to ensure that all sanitation issues are effectively addressed and the people’s complaints are timely dealt with. The Governor re-iterated that officials must ensure that public services are delivered satisfactorily to the people.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Mr. Parvez Dewan, Advisors to Governor; Mr. B.R Sharma, Chief Secretary, Mr. B.B. Vyas, Financial Commissioner Planning and Development, Mr. P.K Tripathi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. R.K Goyal, Principal Secretary Home, Mr. K. Rajendra, DGP; Mr. Rohit Kansal, Commissioner PWD (R&B), PHE and I&FC; Mr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Mr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, among others.
