Geelani was not prevented to attend Iftar Party on Monday: Police

Srinagar: The allegations as have appeared in the certain local news papers of the valley that Syed Ali Shah Geelani was placed under house arrest on Monday evening to prevent him to attend the Iftar Party at a local hotel is baseless and far away from the facts.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani is not under house arrest and is free to go anywhere. In the recent past he visited Ziyarat Sharief Batmallo Sahib, Hazratbal shrine and offered prayers there. Similarly he has offered the Namazi Jinazah of Prof. Mehraj ud din at Hazratbal. He also attended the condolence gathering of Ajaz Ahmad at Soura. He also got himself medically examined at SKIIMS and Bone & Joint Hospital Barzulla.
However, the movements of Syed Ali Shah Geelani are restricted on certain occasions when there is a potential of creating breach of peace and public tranquility by him which endangers public life and property, but the same are done in accordance with the provisions of the law.
It is reiterated that Syed Ali Shah Geelani was not prevented to attend any Iftar Party on06/08/2012 but he has himself chosen not to leave his residence. Therefore, the allegations as have appeared in the print media are totally baseless. (Police)
